SummaryThe RN-CVOR has the responsibility of providing direct and
indirect nursing care to assigned patients. Also responsible for
providing nursing support in the care and preparation of patients
undergoing Cardiovascular surgical procedures. Works under the
direct and indirect supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee
but is independent in the application of CVOR nursing knowledge and
skills. Manages clinical situations for which he/she is
responsible. Functions as an important member of the surgical team
in the operating room and at times, circulates all levels of CVOR
and trauma cases.
Must be able to take call, including weekends.BonusThis position is

Assessment: Collects patient data and completes required forms with
appropriate responses according to unit - - - - - - - standards;
identifies patient's problems/needs and sets priorities; identifies
problems requiring further referral - - and/or follow-up;
interprets and records latest diagnostic results; performs nursing
assessment using critical - - - - - - - - thinking skills. - 10%*
Planning Care: Develops a plan of care based on nursing process and
which incorporates the plans of other - - - - - - - - - - - - -
disciplines and continuing care needs; includes the patient/family
in developing or revising the plan of care; makes - - referrals to
multidisciplinary support services. - 10%* Implementing/Managing
Care: Care provided conforms to accepted practice standards;
provides treatments/ - - - - - - - - - procedures and other care as
prescribed and according to patient care standards; demonstrates
understanding of - - age-related characteristics and needs of
patients served; explains nursing procedures; provides discharge
teaching; - - identifies emergency situations and independently
initiates advanced therapy; acts as an advocate and coordinator - -
of patient care with other health care personnel and evaluates
patient care measures instituted; understands and - - demonstrates
respect for patient rights and utilizes established mechanisms for
management of ethical issues in - - - patient care. - 10%*
Evaluation: Records patient care delivered as planned and any
variation, with appropriate rationale; makes and - - - - - - - - -
records observations related to impending or associated problems;
implements nursing measures related to - - - - - - - - - - - -
impending or associated problems. - 10%* Leadership: Using nursing
process, delegates nursing care to appropriate personnel;
integrates cost effective - - measures into nursing practice;
recognizes unit problems and takes responsibility for documenting
same; - - - - - - - - - - demonstrates active participation in QI
processes; complies with hospital expectations to meet staffing
demands - - based on patient care needs; complies with policies
addressing safe working conditions; monitors unsafe working - -
conditions; recognizes inappropriate and/or ineffective patient
care management, resolves issue/problem and - - - - - - completes
written reports; fulfills call for unit as assigned and adjusts
staffing for census (volume) and acuity. - 10%* Documents surgical
procedure, surgical counts and prep for intensive on and off pump
procedures, interacting with - - team members, including surgeons
in preparing for multifaceted procedures. - 10%* Operates and
prepares complicated surgical equipment and devices. 10%* Prepares
setup and operates new technology procedures such as (TVAR)
Transcather Aortic Valve Replacement, - - (LVAD) Left Ventricular
Assist Device, Impella Implantation, Transmyocardio Laser, Cardio
Ablation and Cardio - - - - - - - - Assist Devices and Endovascular
cases. - 10%* Interacts with department staff when preparing for
TVAR, LVAD and Endovascular cases. - 10%* May be required to assist
the CVOR Surgical Technologist in a scrub role as needed. -
10%Supervisory/Management ResponsibilitiesThis is a non-management
job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or
executive.Minimum RequirementsAssociate's Degree in Nursing. BSN
preferred.One year experience as a registered nurse.Required
Licensure/Registrations/CertificationsLicensed to practice as a
Registered Nurse in South CarolinaIn Lieu Of The Above Minimum
RequirementsIn lieu of 1 year of registered nurse experience, will
accept successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency
Program or successful completion of a comparable residency from
another organization.In lieu of 1 year of registered nurse
experience, will accept 1 year of licensed practical nurse (LPN)
experience.Other Required SkillsMaintain inventory control,
Surgeons preferences and instrumentation needs. Able to precept new
staff to the CVOR and maintain continuing education credits. -
